How to use Venn

Venn is a private photo-sharing widget — no feed, no likes, just the latest photo from the people who matter, right on your Home Screen. Here's the whole app in four short steps each.

Getting started

  1. 1

    Create your first circle

A circle is a private group — your partner, your family, a few close friends. Open Venn, tap the + button, and give your circle a name.

  2. 2

    Invite people

Open your circle and tap Invite. You can share an iMessage link, show a QR code for someone to scan in person, or read out a short code they can type in. Anyone with the invite joins that circle — there's no account to create.

  3. 3

    Join a circle someone shared

Tap an invite link, scan a QR code, or open Venn and enter the short code you were given. Venn asks you to confirm before adding you in.

Sharing a photo

  1. 1

    Take a photo

The camera is Venn's home screen — just open the app and tap the shutter. Tap the flip icon to switch between the front and back camera.

  2. 2

    Choose who sees it

After capturing, pick which circle to share to. If you're in more than one circle, switch between them with the circle name at the top before you send.

  3. 3

    Send it

Tap Send and the photo goes straight to that circle's widget on everyone's Home Screen. There's no feed and no likes — just the photo, waiting on their screen.

Your Home Screen widget

  1. 1

    Add the widget

Long-press an empty area of your Home Screen until the icons jiggle, tap the + in the top-left, search for Venn, and choose a widget size.

  2. 2

Point each widget at a circle

Long-press the widget, tap Edit Widget, and pick a circle. Add several widgets — one for family, one for friends — each showing that circle's latest photo.

  3. 3

    Lock Screen & StandBy

Venn also offers Lock Screen widgets and works in StandBy mode, so the latest photo can greet you without unlocking your phone.

Browsing & managing

  1. 1

    Look back through Recents

Swipe down from the camera to open Recents — every photo from your circles, grouped by month.

  2. 2

    Filter by circle

In Recents, tap the filter control to choose which circles to show. Pick a combination and you'll see just the overlap you're after.

  3. 3

Save a photo, or leave a circle

Open any photo and tap the share icon to Save to Photos. To leave or delete a circle, go to the Groups tab and swipe left on it.
